WHY RECYCLE?
* Recycling creates jobs
* Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to keep a 100-watt light bulb
burning for 3.5 hours.
* Recycling five 2 liter plastic bottles can produce enough fiberfill to make a
man's ski jacket.
* Recycling helps our economy
* Americans discard 1.6 billion pens, 2 billion razors & 220 million tires each
year.
* Glass is 100% recyclable.
* Packaging accounts for half of all paper produced in the US, 90 % of all glass
and 11% of all aluminum.
* Recycling reduces potential environmental damage.
* The average working American produces up to 1-1/2 lb. of paper each day
* Recycling one ton of paper saves:
-7000 gallons of water from pollution
-9.9 cubic feet of landfill space
-17 trees
-2 barrels of oil
-4100 kilowatt-hours of electricity (power an average home for six months).
* Recycling a 4 foot stack of newspaper saves a 40 foot pine tree.
* Recycling one aluminum saves enough electricity to run your TV for 3 hours.
* All metal is 100% recyclable.
* It takes 500,000 trees to publish America's Sunday newspapers.
* The average consumer uses more than 500 paper & plastic grocery bags a year.
* One car oil change poured into a storm drain can create an eight acre oil
slick.
