Covington Township Conducting Another Drive for Deployed Troops
Last December Covington Township sent twenty-five jammed packed boxes full of items our soldiers can use, plus letters and cards from students, as well as residents. The response was wonderful. The township’s supervisors have since received letters expressing gratitude.
Knowing the deployed have much more important tasks to deal with every day instead of taking time to write, they did not expect to hear anything.
Here are quotes from one letter: "When the troops received the donations smiles appeared on their faces. The kindness and support of strangers are always remembered." Then after explaining this soldier has two very strong and encouraging NCOs from PA she adds, "They are great to have as part of our unit". Then at the end, "These donations help lift our spirits and temporarily reduce our stress while giving the troops a breath of fresh air. Thank you very much once again for your kind support."
In another correspondence: "We were one of the units that recently received some of the goods that were donated to the armed forces by your township. I wanted to drop you a line to let you know how much we appreciate the thoughtfulness of your board and donors." Then later in the same letter… "I am very familiar with your township and have traveled through and done business there many times, to include shopping at Bill’s Supermarket. While it is nice to receive care packages, it is even nicer when you can associate the gift with something or someone that is known to you." He closes with, "Once again, I want to express our gratitude for the thoughts and donations that went into your care package items we received. Please relay this message to your Board of Supervisors, township staff and any business owners/residents you come in contact with during your duties as Chairman. And may God bless you all."
Knowing that the soldiers appreciated the township’s effort and that they helped them in some way is priceless.
As the war on terrorism continues, our deployed troops need our support. Covington Township is once again sponsoring a care package drive. Donations can be dropped off at the municipal office, located on Route 435 in the Moffat estate, Monday-Friday 10a.m. – 2p.m. They will be collecting until July 4.
Examples of items needed are: sunscreen, chap stick with SPF, playing cards, games, snacks, hard candy, gum, body powder with cornstarch, pens, note pads, envelopes, cameras, phone cards, socks, gel boot inserts, powdered drinks, and magazines or books.
Monetary donations would be used for shipping and/or purchasing items to send.
Items prohibited for mailing to Middle Eastern countries are: securities, currency, precious metals in their raw state, horror comics, religious materials, pornographic items, political materials, firearms, pork, fruits, animals and living plants, alcoholic beverages and distilling materials.
Please contribute to this drive, even if it’s one item or letter of support. All will be appreciated.
